Preparing your Ministry

Abigail, a woman mentioned in the Old Testament, was wise, decisive and ready for what came her way because she was prepared. Abigail acted quickly. She took two hundred loaves of bread, two skins of wine, five dressed sheep, five seahs of roasted grain, a hundred cakes of raisins and two hundred cakes of pressed figs and loaded them on donkeys” (1 Samuel 25:18, NIV).

When you need to have a meal for 600 hungry men, how long do you think it takes to collect, mix, prepare, and organize? I have planned and assisted with meals for 300 people, and it certainly takes some time. Abigail does not have time on her side, yet she hastily puts a meal together AND packed it AND sent it with her servants to David. This shows us that she had her house in order. In being prepared, she saved her household not with not words of desperation, but with action and deeds. (Read 1 Samuel 25 for the full story). Her address to David is a masterpiece of charm, wisdom and grace. A combination of confidence in Christ and commitment to the task at hand was honoring to God. She showed herself to be a woman of truth and faith, and that took preparation.

We study for degrees. We rehearse for performances. We prepare for events. Girls Ministries is no different. The Girls Ministries national team is traveling throughout the country providing local church leaders the opportunity to prepare and grow in their calling. There is something for everyone including:

  • Basic Girls Ministries training
  • Club or coordinator breakouts to hear how others provide this great ministry to their area
  • Workshops that will help you grow in your walk and calling
  • A place to ask questions

We need to continue to prepare ourselves in our ministry, so we can be even more effective for Christ in reaching our girls.

Last weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to experience a national training event in New Jersey. God does something beautiful when like-minded and like-hearted ladies come together. We share the same passion for Christ and girls. Seven districts were represented. The Lord grew us, challenged us, encouraged us—and we shared lots of laughter. We made connections with each other and formed new friendships. There was even some shopping involved!

We must do our part in preparing our hearts for our girls and for our leaders. This preparation is important, and Girls Ministries training is vital. We must spend time in prayer, in the Word, and even with each other. We know the victory is the Lord’s, but that does not excuse us from preparation for our ministry. As Scripture states, “The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord” (Proverbs 21:31, NLT).

Take advantage of the next national training event held in your area and watch as God grows your ministry and your confidence.
