Frequently Asked Questions
- In what ways is Missionettes expanding to reflect the name change?
The National Girls Ministries Department is branching out to provide a variety of resources to help churches reach out to every girl in their church and community.- Mpact Girls Clubs (formerly Missionettes) will continue to disciple Daisies through Stars (and Rainbows).
- Friends and Girls Only will also remain as they are and will now be a part of Teen Girl Ministries.
- Teen Girl Ministries will develop additional discipleship resources that will be non award-based. This curriculum will not replace Friends and Girls Only. It will be an option for churches not already using those materials.
- The Nationwide Sleepover will have a more intentional evangelistic focus. Churches will be able to use this event as an outreach to its community.
- Impact! Leadership Development will continue to offer tools to improve leaders of girls. Electronic media use will be enhanced to provide more easily accessible resources.
- Targeted resources for social concerns and parental enrichment and involvement in their daughters’ lives are in development.
- How will the changes be reflected on the local level?
No major changes must occur right away. The changes to the national office are structural and to provide additional ministry opportunities. The Missionettes clubs remain intact — Rainbows (pre-Missionettes and Rangers), Daisies, Prims, Stars, Friends, and Girls Only. Girls in Friends and Girls Only will now be a part of Teen Girl Ministries while girls in Daisies, Prims, and Stars will be a part of Mpact Girls Clubs.
The Name Change Explained: How it Works in Your Church!
- Will I have to purchase new product for our clubs? Will the products be updated?
Churches will not need to replace curriculum. Core support items — unit awards, club T-shirts, club posters, etc. — will not need to be replaced. A gradual transition to Mpact Girls Clubs, Teen Girl Ministries, and National Girls Ministries will occur over a two-year period. During that time, Missionettes products will continue to be available as they are currently. A limited line of products will be made available with the Mpact Girls Clubs logo. Refer to the 2008 National Girls Ministries catalog to see those products. Within two years, all product will include the Mpact Girls Clubs name and logo only. - When should we start using the new name in our church/district?
As stated earlier, the transition period for product is two years. You may begin using Mpact Girls Clubs, Teen Girl Ministries, and Girls Ministries right away or at least by the end of the two-year period. - How should we refer to Rainbows since boys are a part of that club?
While Rainbows are included in the Mpact Girls Clubs arm of national Girls Ministries, please feel free to modify the overall club title to include boys. You could simply refer to them as Rainbows (as it is technically pre-Royal Rangers and pre-Mpact Girls Clubs). Or, you could modify the program name to be Mpact Clubs or Mpact or M Clubs. We recommend that the year-end Celebration be referred to simply as a Celebration. - I see new values on the National Girls Ministries (NGM) site. Is the fivefold purpose still relevant?
Yes! The NGM values will guide all that is carried out by the national office. The fivefold purpose still states the mission of Mpact Girls Clubs. - Will there be new National Girls Ministries product?
Product promoting National Girls Ministries (NGM) will be limited because most new resources will be released under one of the areas within the department, such as Mpact Girls Clubs, Teen Girl Ministries, and Impact Leadership Development - Will there be age group changes within the curriculum?
No. The age groups for clubs remain the same. New resources for Rainbows through Stars will complement the current curriculum. Most new Teen Girl Ministries resources will be for all teen girls but Friends and Girls Only will continue to target the middle school and high school girls, respectively. - Will the Medals of Honor achievement program change?
No. Girls will move from Mpact Girls Clubs to Teen Girl Ministries to complete the Medals of Honor achievement program. Completion of club level requirements to attain Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medals of Honor remain the same. - Will the leadership requirements change?
No. The girls curriculum is not changing, therefore, the leadership requirements will not need to change. - How will Parent Enrichment impact the clubs?
Parent Enrichment resources will complement and enhance the Mpact Girls Clubs and Teen Girl Ministries curriculum. We will provide tools to help involve parents (church-attending and non-church attending) in the spiritual growth of their daughters through these ministries. - Why did you change the name “Missionettes”?
The name “Missionettes” was first used in 1955 during a time when many popular groups’ names ended with the suffix “ettes,” such as the Rockettes. At that time, it was an excellent identifier of the purpose and focus (winning girls to Jesus Christ and teaching them about missions) of the club. That word structure is no longer commonplace or familiar in today’s culture. Because the title of the club is dated, many perceive the club itself to be antiquated and irrelevant. We do not believe this to be true. We asked to change our department name to Girls Ministries because it is more reflective of our desire to meet the broader scope of girls’ needs. We chose Mpact because it is a more modern identifier of the original fivefold purpose of our girls clubs — helping girls grow in their relationship to Jesus Christ so that they can make an impact on their world. - Will the Spanish materials change also?
Our desire is that the Spanish materials will also be updated by the end of the two-year period. However, the possibility of updating Spanish materials is significantly influenced by sales averages during that time and inventory levels. We will be good stewards of our resources but make every effort to update the Spanish materials to reflect the change to National Girls Ministries, Mpact Girls Clubs, and Teen Girl Ministries. - What should we call our Celebration?
As churches and districts begin to call their clubs Mpact Girls Clubs, they can refer to their graduation ceremony as Mpact Celebration. When Friends and Girls Only graduates are involved, we suggest calling it a Girls Ministries Celebration. If Rainbows are also involved, simply refer to it as a Celebration. - Will the district coordinators change their titles?
Each district is sovereign. Assignment of leadership titles is at the discretion of each district office. - Will district coordinators be required to keep up with all areas of Girls Ministries, in addition to Missionettes?
Each district leader will choose what areas to support. However, the change of the national office structure should not create additional work for district leaders. Clubs and leadership requirements remain the same. The national office wants to facilitate cooperation between departments to develop targeted resources for new areas — social concerns and parent enrichment. These areas will not be programmatic; they will offer resources and tools for ministry that will enhance ongoing programs.
