"Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible." Francis of Assisi
I love this quote because I want to do the impossible for God's kingdom. But most of the time I feel like I'm barely treading water just doing the necessary.
Over the years I've heard Girls Ministries leaders say "We don't have time for anything extra! It's all I can do to get the unit lessons done." So those wonderful times of outreach become fewer or nonexistent.
But back to the quote, you are already doing the necessary, what else is possible? Even though outreach takes time, energy and resources the rewards are amazing!
Red River Cowboy Church is Southwest Oklahoma is reaching out, in and to their culture. Their Girls Clubs meet on Sunday morning. On Wednesday they reach out to boys and girls in the area with Kids Roundup. They have a team that teaches the kids about horses, riding, roping and other fun stuff. The church also has their own arena where they host Christian Family Rodeo for kids.
Children's pastors Mark and Lauren reach out to the elementary girls in their community through their annual Girl's Night. Fliers are sent out to schools and 100-plus girls come ready to have a blast! The night offers worship, a message, crafts, and princess preparations. The girls get their hair and nails done by older girls and Moms. They choose a dress-up gown and accessories to wear in a fashion show for their parents! Girls are ministered to and families are blessed, and suddenly we are doing the impossible! We're reaching out to our communities and making a difference in our corner of the world.
