    How would you finish this statement: “I hate…”? If your mom was anything like my little 4’8” dynamo, you learned at a very early age to be careful how you used the word hate.
  • Marta is My Hero
    Marta is my hero. I met her several years ago when Mike and I were Single Adult Pastors in the Bay area. I liked her immediately and we became fast friends. Her laugh was infectious and it didn’t take long to see she demonstrated humility, servanthood, and wisdom beyond her young adult years. One evening over dinner in our home she and her husband Mark began to share about their walk of faith. They spoke of Marta’s physical challenges and the reason why she walked with a slight limp and why her left hand was smaller and hung loosely at her side.
  • Oatmeal Days
    On cold winter mornings I enjoy a hot bowl of oatmeal smothered in brown sugar topped off with a hint of real cream. Bananas and raisins make it a real taste treat! Maybe it’s because a steaming bowl of my concoction brings back fond memories of my childhood, or maybe it’s just because it hits the spot and warms me from the inside out. Actually, when you think about it – oatmeal is bland and colorless, a very ordinary food.

    When I was a little girl growing up in Granite City, Ill., one of my favorite things to do was to go, along with my two older brothers and several neighborhood friends, to a place we affectionately called “Green Field.”
